Vedanta
Made during six months travelling through India, these photographs follow the shifting distance between observation and understanding.
Moving by train, bus and ferry, I photographed people gathering and passing, moments of ceremony and ordinary life, and the ways bodies, buildings and landscapes briefly align. Some images were made from the edge of a scene; others emerged through closer encounters.
The title draws on the Sanskrit words veda, meaning knowledge, and anta, meaning end. Here, it suggests the point at which explanation falls away and experience remains.
Shot on medium-format film and processed locally in India.
